This repeated habit often causes the non-stick properties to be lost. It is important to never wash the pan with the rough part of the sponge, as you will scratch it and this will make cleaning later difficult.
A good tip to clean the pans in cases where there is grease or burned food is to fill it with water and let it rest for 5 minutes. The heat will soften leftover food and grease and make cleanup easier. Remove the pan from the heat and clean any remaining residue with the soft side of the sponge and dishwashing liquid.
