Precautions to take in case of receiving unwanted SMS
There are also a number of methods you can use to stop SMS scams and ads.
-
If you have any doubt that it is spam, please do not send a reply.
Responding to an advertisement or other SMS lets the spammer know that your phone number works. What happens next is that it can sell your data to other spammers who, in turn, could flood you with false promises of free gifts and product offers. So the best thing would be to block the number and report it.
-
Never click a link in a spam text
Clicking on a link in a spam text message can install malware on your phone or take you to fraudulent sites that look real but are specifically designed to steal your personal information. If you have been hacked, you may notice that your phone’s battery life and performance have drastically decreased. However, if you click a link by mistake, be sure to close the window immediately. If you find that the files have been downloaded without your knowledge, delete them and do not open them.
