Regardless of the brand, all front-loading washing machines today have one common feature: a clear, concave door. Why did the manufacturers choose to design such a curved window? Few people know the explanation. But this strange detail is far from trivial, on the contrary, its practicality is remarkable. And the reasons for this conception are multiple. We take stock.
That’s why the curved door is practical

The first washing machines were top-loading. It wasn’t until the 1950s that they became more practical and efficient thanks to front loading which allowed them to be filled from the front. At that time, filling the laundry drum from the front had many technical advantages. Thanks to this new design, it was possible to achieve higher spin speeds, which made it much easier to dry clothes.
On the other hand, if the door of the washing machine were bulging, your clothes would accumulate in this part and would not wash well. Precisely, the concave door continuously pushes the clothes into the drum: allowing them to soak, rinse and spin evenly. In addition, such a design limits the capacity of the washing machine, and therefore significantly reduces water consumption. Although many people complain about the difficulty of cleaning this unusual door structure, it was designed for a specific purpose. Thus, this concave door ensures a more efficient operation of the rotation mechanism inside the machine and prevents water leaks by protecting the seal. In addition, the convex glass design prevents clothing from contacting the rubber door and wearing away during washing. It should also be added that thanks to this structure, the door of the washing machine is much stronger and more resistant to pressure.
NB : Top load washers have a flat door. In fact, in such a washing machine, the laundry remains at the bottom. So there is no pressure for them to head out the door.

Cleaning your washing machine is just as important as regular maintenance for other appliances. How to facilitate its maintenance without using products that are harmful to the environment? Here are two very effective green methods to adopt:
- This first home method is very popular as it uses the cleaning, whitening and deodorizing properties of baking soda. How to proceed ? Simply pour 1 tablespoon of the white powder into the detergent drawer and set the machine on an empty wash cycle. Opt for a temperature of 90 °C degrees to effectively remove dirt, scale and unpleasant odours.
- The second method is just as effective – here you will apply citric acid. It is also very useful to combat limescale, lime and mold deposits. How to proceed? Pour 1/3 cup of the product into the detergent drawer, set the temperature to 90°C and set the washer for a full wash cycle.
To clean your dirty machine, experts advise doing it at least once a month. Also, regular cleaning with citric acid will protect your device against scale and mold formation.
