Fortunately, most cars are equipped with numerous safety systems. One of the most popular and effective, introduced a few years ago, is the famous tailgate lock. Once activated, the door can only be opened from the outside: so if your child from behind tries to pull the inside handle for fun, there is no risk of the door opening from the outside by accident as it will fit perfectly blocked up. Therefore, you will have peace of mind both when the car is moving and when it is stationary.
Please note that this blockage can take several forms. Sometimes it’s a little lever that you can move with your finger. But there are also different shifters or buttons that you can operate. On newer vehicles, the lock can usually be activated electrically.
Depending on the make and model, the lever for operating the rear door lock is sometimes clearly indicated (for example, with a sketch of the silhouette of a child). But there are also vehicles where the lock is represented by a small icon in the lock area. For more information on its operation, it is always advisable to read the manual.

As you may have understood, locking the rear door is therefore very practical, and above all reassuring, when you are transporting small children or “fragile” people in the back seat who could accidentally open the door on the road, or when you are stopped at traffic lights. in red and lead to a dangerous situation.
The only drawback of this forced lock: it is impossible to escape from the vehicle in the event of an accident. In fact, since they can’t open the door, passengers in the back will only have the option of opening the window to try and reach the outside door handle. Provided, of course, that the window itself is not blocked by the driver. The latter has, in fact, a protection switch on the control panel of its window. Therefore, you have the option to activate or deactivate the opening function of the rear window.
