Children who get bored, who stay screwed at the console: you have promised to change that. They don’t lack energy and want to do well, so why not try playing with them? Make a nice object to decorate the center of the table, the dresser in the living room. Here is a small manual activity that will fascinate your children and make them proud to present to adults, an original object that will make all eyes shine. Simply, potatoes, present in every home and a lot of creativity will make this beautiful moment to spend together a success.
By making these beautiful original and decorative candle holders themselves with their parents, your children will develop their curiosity, their motor skills (knowing how to do something with their ten fingers), and together they will find simple and cheap solutions. Significantly, you can prevent the dangers of using candles, using heat sources.

1 – Clean the potatoes and make sure they are clean, healthy and dry;
2 – Cut the top of the potato;
3 – Take the spoon, and dig the inside to leave the thickness of a child’s finger on each side, for the bottom calculate the height equivalent to that of the candles you bought (do not throw away the pulp, it can be used in a soup or mashed potatoes);
4 – Clean the hollowed potatoes well, the edges and the bottom with a paper towel;
5- Paint and decorate the potatoes, on the outside and not on the inside, before gluing your subjects, apply a color of glue varnish.
6 – Remove the small spark plugs: gently remove the metal edges, taking care to recover the white paraffin, like the central wick;
7 – Explain to children the dangers of heat and any flame used;
8 – In the saucepan, melt the recovered paraffin, keep the liquid at temperature, count two or three squares per potato to be filled
9 – Place the recovered wick on the potato, hold it on the two edges of the potato with the straw;
10 – Carefully pour the melted wax;
11 – Remove the straw when the paraffin has recovered its usual appearance.
The candles are now ready to use, both for decoration and lighting. It is preferable to use natural soybean or rapeseed vegetable waxes. The same goes for the wax wick; it is preferable that it be made of cotton.
Another, easier method is to cut the top of the potato and hollow out the bottom before placing floating candles directly on it. A pleasant and ecological decoration, without a doubt.
