How to recharge the battery of a phone that has taken water?

adminDecember 20, 2022

Some smartphones are more waterproof than others, but if yours ends up at the bottom of a pool or toilet, it may refuse to charge, despite being turned on. It shows you what you need to do to successfully resolve this issue.

Your mobile phone has been in the water for a long time and for various reasons! Note that the latter, although it is waterproof and equipped with a high protection index, can be damaged to the point that it can no longer detect the charger.

What does smartphone ingress protection mean?

Just because you have a waterproof phone does not mean that it is 100% waterproof, even with international certification (IP67, IP68…). In fact, if modern smartphones are waterproof, it’s not because the manufacturers want you to go diving with them or completely submerge them in water for a long period of time. In other words, protection index it’s just kind of guarantee against accidental dust, drips and spills, etc. Furthermore, over time and with the force of use, a smartphone can lose this index and become quite sensitive to this problem. Also, if it detects water or humidity, it will refuse to charge and will display an alert with a drop of water on your screen. This is a safety measure that helps protect your device from corrosion and possible damage. If you find yourself in such a situation, do not panic, because there are ways to solve the problem.

If your smartphone is wet or exposed to a humid environment, it will most likely refuse to charge. Whether you have a Android phone or iPhoneWe show you how to deal with this problematic situation.

Clean the USB port of your smartphone

If your phone refuses to charge then you need to make sure that the problem is not with the cable. To check this, just connect the latter with another phone. If everything works as it should, it means that the problem is your USB port that is damp or wet. To evacuate this excess moisture, here is how to proceed:

  • Disconnect your mobile phone from the charger and gently shake it while placing the USB port (Android) or Lightning connector (iPhone) downwards.
  • Wipe it with a dry, lint-free cloth to avoid leaving residue in the USB port.
  • Alternatively, spread a clean, dry cloth on a flat surface in a ventilated area, place your mobile device on top, and let it air dry for a day.
  • You can also do this step manually by using a fan that you point in the direction of your device’s USB port.

Empty the USB cache of your Android smartphone

This method only applies to smartphones running on Android. When you have tried everything and your phone still shows the moisture error, when you are sure that it is completely dry, it is recommended to clear the USB cache data so that the water drop icon disappears while charging. To do this :

  • Open the “Settings” app and select “Applications”.
  • Tap on the three dots at the top right and select “Show system apps”.
  • Scroll through the apps and select “USB Settings”.
  • Tap on “Storage”, then click on “Clear cache”.

Reboot your smartphone

If you are sure that you have removed all the excess moisture and the icon with the drop of water does not disappear from your screen. Remember to restart your device, because many times the operating system does not understand that there is no more water in the USB port.
