Energy consuming freezer frost
For over a century, this wonderful invention has held pride of place in kitchens around the world. Among other things, it keeps food cold, saving us a lot of hygiene and handling concerns. It works thanks to an engine -in the back or under your device- that drives a gas. This, due to the effect of pressure, creates cold when passing through the pipes. In fact, it is this result that we are happy to discover when we open it.
This production is not permanent, it depends on the ambient temperature. However, the device is plugged in non-stop and consumes electricity. We take care of cleaning shelves and bins. Too often we forget to dedicate ourselves to the tray that is at the level of the freezer. It is allowed to accumulate a layer, or even a waterfall of ice. If you want to control your budget, you have to stop contemplating this accumulation and attack it. The system, by not recognizing that the programmed temperature has been reached, will constantly reproduce the production of cold. The ice wedge in your fridge is not insulating at all, on the contrary, it is expensive, very expensive.
The operation is not complicated; It requires a bit of organization and time. Here are the most important steps.
1- Unplug the refrigerator and empty it of all its contents. Put food and other items in freezer bags or wrap them in newspaper.
2- Place floor cloths at the foot of the refrigerating chamber to contain the defrost water. Activate the defrost function. Leaving the door open helps speed up the melt. The operation can last between 6 and 24 hours depending on the model,
3- Speed up defrosting by placing a pot of hot water at the bottom of the cabinet; repeat this step if necessary. A deicing accelerator can also be put on the ice crust, simply by sprinkling a little kitchen salt.
4- Clean the refrigerator: the shelves, the walls, with vinegar water to remove odors and dirt. You can also use a baking soda solution. Blot up any dripping water or wring out the mops you had planned to catch the thawed water.
