While it’s true that rust isn’t one of the easiest marks to remove, unlike stovetop grease or cooking liquid spills, it can still be mitigated or even removed with the right arsenal of products. Despite the tenacity of rust stains, the following mixture is very effective against them:

What you will need:

  • sodium bicarbonate
  • Water
  • Half a glass of white vinegar
  • 4 tablespoons of dishwashing liquid

After mixing baking soda with a little water, apply the resulting paste directly to the stained area and leave it on for a few minutes. Take advantage of this time to Pour the white vinegar and 4 tablespoons of dishwashing liquid into a spray bottle.

Put your spray bottle aside and gently rub the baking soda paste with a damp microfiber cloth. What other ingredients work against rust?

Your closet probably collects many other ingredients, all capable of removing rust from metal surfaces and restore its shine. Here are some of the most notable.

If you act before the rust reaches the depth of the metal, the lemon can help eliminate it in its early stages. And for good reason, when combined with the abrasive properties of salt, the acidity of this citrus fruit can effectively remove surface rust. Apply a layer of coarse salt to the area to be treated and squeeze half a lemon on it. Let the two ingredients work together for two hours or more, then rub the mixture in with a washcloth. This should be enough to remove any traces of rust. Then wipe the area with a damp microfiber cloth to rinse before wiping with a dry cloth.

  • Raw potato and salt to remove rust

Potato is another excellent natural deoxidizer thanks to the oxalic acid it contains, which is often used as an abrasive agent against oxidation. Cut the potato in half by pouring salt over its smooth surface, then rub it against the rusty surface. Also note that you can replace the salt with baking soda.

This technique is all the more effective on kitchen utensils such as pans, knives or forks. It is best to soak them in a warm water bath after treating them and then let them air dry.

  • Hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and cream of tartar to remove rust

We also suggest using a smart mix of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and custard tart. Mix the three ingredients well in a bowl. after having obtained a fairly consistent paste, apply it to the rusty area. Let the substance sit for an hour and then rinse it with a damp cloth or place it under a stream of tap water if it is a metal utensil.
