Internet connection is still slow! Does your router show only one bar? Despite your best efforts, the connection leaves a lot to be desired. It is also possible that the house itself is blocking the waves or that the interference is disturbing the signal of your box or your WI-Fi router. Do you really need to increase the signal? No panic! The solution exists! A Wi-Fi repeater, made with salvaged items. The result will leave you speechless!
Here’s how to proceed: a diagnosis, tests, an hour of your time, and you’ll be all set!
Are you sure you have done everything possible to optimize your Wi-Fi connection?
If this is the case and the problem persists: There are several solutions. The first is to buy a wifi repeater. It will serve as a relay. The second is to pass WI-Fi through your electrical network, using PLC outlets (which carry current on power lines). The experience is satisfactory if your electrical installation is reliable.

It is possible to increase the range of the signal, thanks to a home Wi-Fi repeater
Known as the “Ricoré” Wi-Fi repeater, named after the famous hot drink, this trick amplifies the signal by retrieving the can containing the soluble coffee. if you managed to achieve objects with your hangers, or collecting other materials, it will be easy for you! This low-cost homemade directional antenna will take you an average of an hour, a box, a CD, and some wires.
A Wi-Fi amplifier studied, tested and “approved”.
This homemade solution does not seem serious to you: think about it, the “Ricoré” repeater has managed to prove its worth. On YouTube channels, everyone has their comments. Please note that the size of the box is very important. Budding physicists have measured, calculated, listed and published everything on the net. This home repeater can “multiply” the power of your router.
What you need to make your home Wi-Fi repeater amplifier
To achieve this, this is what you will need:
- a compact disc;
- A USB Wi-Fi adapter;
- A can of Ricoré, preferably large;
- A classic portable tripod;
- A pan lid that goes in the oven;
- Different materials: screws, strong glue, tools for drilling, cutting and gluing.
Take all your precautions to make your repeater. You can get burned or cut, not to mention the problems that using the strong glue could cause. I also know that waves can be a problem to certain family members.
Step 1 – Preparing the Bottom of the Amplifier
We have to heat the CD for it to take shape. It will bend when heated in the oven. Use the lid or the plate, the rack is not enough. No preheating, otherwise the CD may be damaged and the film may come off.
Immediately after removing the CD from the oven, press down on its center with a heat resistant object to give it a parabolic shape, then allow it to cool.
Step 2: Assemble the amplifier with CD and tin box
- Cut a hole in the side of the box near the bottom edge. Install the USB jack. Another hole is going to be drilled in the bottom of the box, for the second wire.
- Your parabolic CD must be glued on the inside, using hot glue. The hole in the CD should be even with the hole in the box wall.
Step 3 – Connect the box to your router
The plug of the Wi-Fi adapter goes into the hole on the CD. Just plug it into your computer’s Wi-Fi cable outlet. Finally, set everything up on the tripod to act as a support.

As you can see, the signal is now excellent and your Wi-Fi repeater obviously has something to do with it. A little of your time, scrap materials, ingenuity and you’re done. With, as a prize, the pride of having gone out alone!
