adminFebruary 21, 2023

Who doesn’t like to find a cozy, warm and comfortable bed at the end of the day? However, changing the bedding is not necessarily part of this pleasure. Sheets, duvet covers, pillowcases and blankets are the bedding that come into direct contact with our bodies and could become a breeding ground for germs if they are not cleaned and changed regularly. Come and find out how often you should change your bedding to ensure your comfort and prevent illness.

The art of sleeping is not limited to choosing the right mattress and box spring, but also paying attention to the bedding. If sleep is vital for our body, a clean and disinfected bedding set is necessary for good health and better hygiene. But how often should it be changed? Indeed, the frequency of changing sheets is closely linked to your conditions and your parallel hygiene, here are the recommendations of Doctor Philip Tierno, director of microbiology at the LANGONE university medical center in the United States, It’s a good idea to wash your sheets weekly if you occasionally skip showers, have a pet that sneaks into your bed, or snack in bed.

It is also advisable to change the sheets in the following cases:

  1. Every two weeks, if you insist on showering at night and sleeping in your pajamas;
  2. Twice a week if you have respiratory problems or nasal congestion. Saliva secreted during sleep could further encourage mites;
  3. Every day, whether you or someone in your household has a virus like the flu or a cold or advanced skin problems like psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis…

The dirty clothes collected must be washed with a mild detergent, you know, beautiful bedding is worth it. Also, the more you wash your bedding with the right gestures, the more attractive and pleasant it will be to the touch. That is why you must have at least two sets of bedding.

What is more delicious than using clean sheets that smell fresh? Therefore, follow these tips:

  • Do not be too lazy to wash your sheets even when your space is small and you will have to be very resourceful to spread them correctly;
  • When removing sheets for washing, try to do not shake or pull them towards you, since dust and bacteria can spread in the room or on clothes. Attention allergy sufferers!

Carefully read clothing labels to determine the wash cycle and temperature. If this is not possible for you, the ideal temperature is as follows:

  • Between 40° and 60° for cotton sheets;
  • No more than 40° for black, colored or linen sheets;
  • 50° for polyester;
  • 30° maximum for satin sheets.
  • Don’t forget to loosen the sheets, if necessary, this will make them look great. For this, use Marseille soap or add half a glass of White vinegar to your clothes to make them softer and less yellow. Always so effective!
  • Baby sheets need a special detergent, just like silk, linen or satin bedding. Plan the one that can protect the fibers of the fabric and not make it rough. Cotton clothes, on the other hand, are more indifferent to the nature of the detergent, just bleach should be avoided for all these;
  • A great whitening trick is sprinkle some baking soda on your sheets before washing them, the result is spectacular!
  • Spinning is important! We advise you to do not clutter your washing machine too much so that the spin cycle is carried out optimally ;
  • Dry the sheets well on a clothesline under a ray of sunlight or simply in the open air and above all do not leave them lying around once the wash cycle is finished.. Proper drying retains the smell of clothes and is an initial solution against dust mites.

Here’s a complete little washing guide for healthy bedding every day. Also, keep in mind that microbiologists emphasize the interest air your bed as soon as you wake up opening the window while preparing her breakfast.

When to change the pillowcase?

If there really is an Aladdin rug that takes us to Wonderland, that must be our pillow, the friend of all time. Keep it up and it will reward you!

During the night, the pillowcase absorbs sweat, oil from the face and scalp, residues from creams, a lot of dead cells, dandruff and small hairs, and all that little (big) mixture can cause acne and skin problems you never imagined. Not to mention the mites that love all this little debris swarming in your pillowcase!

Can you imagine that you already take a good shower and go back to your dirty pillowcase? Inconceivable! We advise you to change your pillowcase once a week and you will witness how the quality of your skin will change. Far from cosmetics, the pillowcase is at the top of the priorities for radiant and awakened skin.

When to wash your pillow?

Washing your pillowcase does not prevent bodily secretions from getting on the pillow, so consider washing the pillow as well. Rest assured, this time, the washing frequency is more spaced in time.
