WhatsApp, the world’s most popular instant messaging platform, remains one of the easiest and fastest means of communication to stay connected with your loved ones. But it is not easy to add contacts in the chat when they are not registered in the address book yet. However, there is a very practical trick that allows you to perform this maneuver in seconds. Thanks to the QR code, you can add contacts without much effort. Here’s how to use it!
WhatsApp QR code: what is it?
This is a Quick Response Code: This Anglo-Saxon term means “Quick Response Code”. By scanning it with your smartphone, you will have access to a variety of information contained in this barcode. The QR code stores, in fact, a large amount of data: you can have information about a product or a company, pay for your purchases from your mobile quickly, access web addresses, telephone numbers or even easily add contact information from a contact . .
Usually, in order to send messages to your loved ones, it is necessary to save their numbers in the address book of your mobile phone, otherwise you will not be able to contact them directly through WhatsApp. However, there is another way to do it without going through this phase. How to save a contact without even having his number? You have two options: a mutual friend can send you the number, which you can then enter directly into your address book. But the fastest method is to use the QR code that will allow you to add this contact to the WhatsApp chat without even knowing their number.

That is how:
- Enter the WhatsApp chat, click on the 3 dots at the top right of the screen, then on settings. There you will immediately find the symbol for your QR code.
- Click on this symbol and share it with whoever you want.
Usually, below the QR code, you will find the following statement: “ Your QR code is private. If you share it with someone, that person can scan it with their WhatsApp camera and add you as a contact“. So be careful and only share it with people you trust. So if the QR code is sent in a group chat, the user will scan the code with their camera and contacts will be exchanged. You can do this even if you are not at home: if, for example, you are shopping and you meet a person to whom you want to forward a WhatsApp contact, just show the QR code. In this very simple way, it is possible to add anyone to the WhatsApp application without having to use the phone book and without going through the laborious registration phase.
If you manage a group, you can invite more people to join said group via an invite link or, more precisely, using a fancy QR code that the invitee will have to scan.
These are the steps to follow:
- Open the WhatsApp group chat and click on the group topic.
- You can also do this from the Chats tab by swiping the group to the left. Then touch More > Group info.
- Tap the group invite link.
- Choose to “Share Link”/”Copy Link” or send a QR code invite to the group.
Note that iPhone users who receive the QR code can scan it with their mobile phone’s camera. As for Android users, they can use any QR code reader to scan it easily. Please note that administrators can unlink the link at any time to cancel its validity and generate a new link.
It should be noted that any WhatsApp user can join a group using the invite link, so we recommend that you only use this feature with people you trust. Because, it is possible that someone transmits this link to other users. They then risk joining the group without receiving admin approval.
