Are you fond of reading? If you usually devour novels, then you must have noticed a strange fact in most of the books. What is the last blank page of a book for?
Many books have two blank pages, usually before the first chapter, at the end of the book, or sometimes even both. Did you think until now that it was pure waste? In truth, this voluntary choice on the part of the publishers was well thought out: the reason is purely technical due to the limitations of the assembly of the pages carried out by automated devices. It comes from the sets of pages that printers fold and cut to make a book. Please note that for convenience, the pages are printed as booklets or sheets. Thus, these notebooks can have 4, 8, 12, 16, 32 or even 64 pages. Therefore, if a manuscript is not printed exactly to the printer’s standards, the machine will leave blank pages. For example, if a book print is 200 pages, you might be fine with a 4-page notebook, while a 203-page manuscript will probably leave a blank page.
To offset the expense, since one extra page of text may require a set of four more pages (with three wasted pages), printers may try to condense the layout by playing with character spacing. Called “kerning,” reducing the space between two specific characters in a book can eventually result in an entire page being saved. If they don’t want to pay extra for unused paper, some publishers choose to fill the extra space in printed books with lists of other works, excerpts, or illustrations.

How important is design in a book?
The design of a book is never insignificant: it is what is supposed to highlight the interior of the novel you are about to read. If the appearance is not attractive or not well organized, it can instantly discredit the quality of the content and even disappoint the readers. A bad layout can ruin the body of the book at hand: it calls into question the credibility of the text and can also be unpleasant to read.
With respect to pagination, page numbers are called “folios” and can appear almost anywhere on the page. If they’re at the bottom of the page, they’re called “loose posts.” Since all the pages are numbered, although some do not have folios, when a number does not appear on the page assigned to it, then it is called a “blind folio”.

What is the function of a book cover?
The “cover” is usually the first visual element to be discovered. It must be attractive and impressive since it is a true selling point. The title page comes right after the title page: it is a blank sheet that continues the presentation indicating some information related to the work. Include again the full title, the name of the author and the publisher. Sometimes it may contain a caption, an image, a serial number or any other distinction.
