Every morning, it’s the same melody. This discomfort is very common during cold periods. But rest assured, there are several proven ways to quickly get rid of this nuisance. During the cold season, all drivers are faced with the phenomenon of condensation forming in the passenger compartment of their car and causing this unpleasant fogging on the windows. Discomfort when driving is felt immediately. A misted windshield is always very annoying because it prevents us from having a good overview of the road. But, it is difficult to escape from it. In winter, when the heating is turned on, the humidity rises and the air turns to condensation. Rest assured, there are effective solutions to minimize this problem and have better visibility on the road. As a bonus, these hacks are cheap and within everyone’s reach.

Here are some remedies to put into practice:

Well known, anti-fog spray is particularly beneficial in eradicating this recurring problem. It would be nice to always have one on hand in the car to avoid this awkward situation. This type of vaporizer helps a lot to eliminate excess humidity in the cabin. You only need to spray both the inside and outside of the windshield. And soon you will notice that the fog will completely disappear.

Less well known, this unusual option is also very effective for demisting the windshield. Oddly enough, shaving foam will help prevent your car windows from fogging up. The application is very simple: take the foam, pour a little on a clean cloth or wipe and spread it on the windshield. Leave to act for two or three minutes, and remove the excess. The shaving foam will create an invisible protective layer on the glass, preventing moisture buildup. In this way, visibility while driving will be significantly improved.

There are still many other natural and cheap tricks to demist the windshield without having to systematically turn on the heating. To avoid consuming fuel.

Here are a few:

  • The potato : Yes, it is surprising, but thanks to the starch it contains, this daily food is capable of absorbing water and preventing that foggy veil from forming on the windshield. Take a raw potato, cut it in half, and scrub the window inside and out before hitting the road. This will significantly reduce condensation.
  • White vinegar: Another unexpected ally, diluted white vinegar will do the perfect trick to demist the windows. Mix a little vinegar in a quart of water, soak a damp newspaper, and rub both surfaces of the windshield. And voila, no more fog!
  • Silica gel: finally, these small spheres are famous for absorbing all the moisture present. Take a handful and slip them into a cotton cloth bag that you will place in the car. This will prevent the formation of moisture and condensation inside. Silica gel is also frequently used in bags, shoes, and even kitty litter.

Why does condensation form on the inside of my windshield?

Condensation on the inside of the windshield is a common problem for drivers. Due to the cold and the rain, the windows are very quickly covered with drops of humidity that end up forming this disturbing fog. Not only is it dangerous to drive, but you also waste a lot of time frequently cleaning glass surfaces as a safety measure.

There are several reasons for this unpleasant phenomenon. The most common are:

  • Condensation due to internal and external temperature differences. The more that accumulates on the surface, the more the windows fog up.
  • Increased humidity inside the passenger compartment in rainy weather.
  • Clogged cabin filter: the obstruction prevents it from properly absorbing dust and moisture.
  • Malfunction of the clean air intake valve in the car. Alternatively, it could be a fault in the sensor that regulates the valve.

But then how to dissipate this condensation in the car? The most effective way to remove it is to direct a stream of hot air directly at the windshield. It can also be done in cold air, but it will take much longer. It is also useful to turn on the air conditioning system: this air circuit will dry the interior of the vehicle, helping to eliminate humidity and gradually eliminating condensation.
